If you’re looking for a WordPress alternative, but you still want to host your own website, your choices are very different from the usual list of Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, and other hosted website builders.
You may want to leave WordPress because you’re tired of managing it, but you probably don’t want to trade that problem for a different kind of limitation: having your website tied to someone else’s hosting platform.
So what can you use instead?
A WordPress Alternative You Can Host Your Way
UltimateWB is downloadable website builder software that you can install on compatible hosting. You can choose UltimateWB hosting or another provider that meets the server requirements.
When you host with UltimateWB, we handle the server setup and maintenance, while you retain full access to cPanel, your website files, and your databases. We also provide free installation of your purchased software and any updates released to you.
For lower upfront fees, you can also start with UltimateWB Cloud, which includes a 30-day free trial, and choose to upgrade to the downloadable software later if you want. Cloud is a hosted option, while the downloadable software gives you the ability to install your website on compatible hosting of your choice.

What About Website Features?
UltimateWB includes built-in features for e-commerce, memberships, forums, directories, classified listings, articles, photo galleries, forms, mailing lists, SEO, and lots more. Unlike WordPress, which requires stacking multiple third-party plugins for core features, UltimateWB comes with these tools built natively into the platform – reducing security risks, plugin conflicts, and update headaches. Read more in Why Relying on WordPress Plugins Can Backfire (And How to Avoid It).
UltimateWB has one of the most extensive selections of built-in website features available in a website builder. Chances are, the features you need are already included, without having to rely on third-party plugins. Explore the full list of UltimateWB features to see what’s available.
With UltimateWB you can also customize your website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. The admin panel lets you manage and customize your website without coding every change, while access to the code and database gives you further flexibility. That is why UltimateWB is known as the website builder that is beginner friendly and expert flexible. We go into more detail in: The Powerful Website Builder for Beginners and Coders.

What About Website Ownership?
Even when you host your own WordPress website, its features can depend on paid plugins with annual license renewals or external SaaS services with ongoing subscription fees. If you stop paying, some features may stop working, while other plugins may continue running but no longer receive updates or security fixes. Your website may be self-hosted, yet important parts of its functionality can still depend on outside providers.
