What are the tradeoffs of building a custom CMS versus using an off-the-shelf or open source CMS?

With a custom CMS you have to keep the coding up-to-date, rather than just install the update – so that could be a huge difference in maintenance time and cost needed. Also it takes more time and cost to develop the custom CMS, which you could use to work on your website itself; just make sure to choose a flexible platform like UltimateWB. You will also have a community using the CMS to help out with special features, design, etc. more easier if it is not a custom CMS.

Got a techy/website question? Whether it’s about UltimateWB or another website builder, web hosting, or other aspects of websites, just send in your question in the “Ask David!” form. We will email you when the answer is posted on the UltimateWB “Ask David!” section.
